If we were chatting over coffee today, this is what I would tell you: Your body is a temple, sweet friend; your life story meant to make an impact.
Yes, I have been blessed with a unique perspective on life and motherhood. And yes, I'm honored to share it with you. (I'm so glad you're here!)
My entire life has been spent navigating chronic disease and my entire mothering experience has been learning how to thrive with miracle kids. One early baby (who fought through critical illness and liver failure at just 11 weeks old) and a precious daughter doing life with both sensory processing disorder and harm OCD. Here, it has become my life's work to share the journey; and speak life into really real lives.
While the storms of life have been relentless, so has been my faith. To paraphrase Pastor Erwin McManus, my faith is stronger because I have kept it in all seasons.
All of them.
(Though some have tested me lots, for sure!)
For almost two decades now, I have been plugged into living life well with chronic disease. I have been diagnosed with dozens of complications from chronic fatigue syndrome, including cancer (melanoma), lupus, seizures, crohn's and a rare blood clotting disorder. I've also spent every spare moment learning to be the best mother I can be, right here. For me, this meant leaving my job in veterinary administration to pursue teaching accessible family-centered yoga and mindfulness shortly after chronic fatigue syndrome left me unable to walk in 2011. It was just one year after our son's birth and almost-loss. Something had to change... (I can now walk just fine, by the way!)
With intense physical therapy and a strong home yoga practice - I opened my first business Mamoga (mama-yoga) Wellness one year later; teaching moms and families all across the state of Connecticut. I participated in grant-funded teaching endeavors, and taught in dozens of classrooms. And after moving 3,000 miles West, I still do - with a nonprofit foundation bringing yoga to families from diverse life spaces in the works.
When I'm not pouring into my precious family, our ministry, or my team - I can be found consuming all the continuing education (I'm all geek), writing, walking desert trails, cooking clean food, pausing for tea, reading the autobiographies of warrior women and men, and hoarding inspired, nonfiction books.
Now it's your turn. Who are you? And how can I serve you? Truly, I can't wait to get to know your story. You matter so much, my friend!
If you're about to send me a question like, "How are you so positive after (insert one of the dozens of challenges we've experienced here)?" click here to see our video with Sun Valley Community Church. It explains my hope, and what can be yours too. Our part starts at the 27:00 minute mark, though I recommend watching the whole thing! This sermon on "storms" might just change your life.
If you're still wondering how I keep the faith, I invite you to follow me on social media. You'll get to know me better, plus you'll get to know Jesus better too! (I think the latter is the bigger win.)
